Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme retires from football

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme has retired from football after months of battling with Acute Leukamia. The 32-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper made 274 domestic career appearances in all competitions, with over 200 of them coming for Wolves, the club he joined in 2000 as a 14-year-old. Carl Ikeme’s retirement was confirmed by Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi in a post on the Club’s website. The post read; “Having been at the club since the age of 14, Carl is far more than just a player in our eyes – he is our brother and an important part of our family. “When Carl came to tell us his news, yes there was sadness, but also great happiness to see him so healthy and hungry for the opportunities that lay ahead of him. “Carl is strong, a fighter, something he has proven in his playing career and also during what has been a very challenging time for him, so I have no doubt he will be a success in whatever he does next. “We wish Carl all the v...

Super Eagles Chief Coach Salisu Yusuf caught taking bribe Chief coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Salisu Yusuf has been caught on camera taking N360, 000 from fake football agents who wanted him to select two players for the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN). As the chief coach of the Super Eagles, Yusuf is in charge of the Super Eagles home-based side and an assistant to  Gernot Rohr  for the Super Eagles. He was in charge of the Super Eagles Team B to the  2017 WAFU  and 2018 CHAN where they lost in both finals. In an investigation led by Ghanaian journalists  Anas Aremeyaw , reporters posing as football agents for some players approached Yusuf in September 2017 for a conversation about players’ selection. During the conversation, they handed the Nigerian coach N360, 000 ($1000) and alluded to more cash incentives if he selects their players for CHAN 2018 which held in Morocco. Liverpool  manager Jurgen Klopp hailed  Mohamed Salah’s  impact as he made a scoring return in their 2-1 pre-season win over Premier League rivals Manchester City on Thursday. Salah, who was Liverpool’s top scorer last season with 44 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions, made a scoring return after he suffered a shoulder injury in the club’s Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid in May. The 26-year-old was introduced as a second-half substitute in Liverpool’s International Champions Cup clash against City and leveled the scores almost immediately before forward Sadio Mane scored the winner. “He is in that moment but he has absolutely no issues… He came in and scored after pretty much 35 seconds. ‘Staying with Arsenal for 22 years is the biggest mistake in my career’ – Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger , who sat for a new interview, stated that he regrets the 22 years he spent at the London side. The former Arsenal Manager who stepped down as the longest-serving manager in Europe in May, having held the Arsenal job since 1996, told French radio station RTL in a wide-ranging interview that he may have been better off seeking out a new challenge sooner. Asked what his biggest mistake in his career was, Wenger said, “Perhaps staying at the same club for 22 years. I’m someone who likes new things, likes change. But I also like challenges. I was a little bit of a prisoner to my challenge each time.” Arsene Wenger added that he has yet to decide what to do in the future and that he may need another two to three months to figure it out.
